Need identification of cluster gear
I am hoping you can help.
Several years ago I purchased an N.O.S cluster gear, hoping it would fit my '41 Lincoln. It had a ford parts tag on it, which has long ago disapppeared. The numbers stamped on it are : WT - 259 8B USAP7 The four gears have the following teeth: 14-17-22-25 ANY HELP ON THIS?? Thanks - Mike |

Re: Need identification of cluster gear
My experience has been WT prefix is Mopar. I issued a warning baout these on the old Fordbarn as I mistook one for being Ford also. There was a Mopar parts search engine posted awhile back I will look for a link so you can properly ID the one you have. Mine is for a 61 3spd. Rod

Re: Need identification of cluster gear
An old warner Gear catalog I have gives that combination as fitting a 1955-1956 V8 272 engine Part number C2TZ-7113B the after market number I show is AWT-259-8R I believe the WT indicates Warner Transmission. I do not show any Dodge combinations with the tooth layout 14-17-22-25 the 259 after market number points to a 3 speed ford part.

Re: Need identification of cluster gear
Brian has it right. That gear will not work in any 39-48 L-Z application.

Re: Need identification of cluster gear
Dad's auto parts store had gears, wt259 (+ more #), would be an aftermarket transmission part number, TRW brand...

Re: Need identification of cluster gear
Karl Wolf is probably right TRW was a merger of Thompson Pistons, Ramco piston rings and Warner Gear. The old catalog I have is "Dittmer" gears were sold by NAPA, gears were probably sourced from TRW or other gear venders.

Re: Need identification of cluster gear
TRW was a reformation of Thompson Products that was started by Charles E. Thompson. His company was ground breaking in the joining of corrosion resistant metals with steel for exhaust valves. Thompson later partnered with Simon Ramo and Dean Wooldridge to form the aerospace & engineering giant TRW. They were involved with missle defense systems and the space race to the moon & beyond. Thompson was the money behind the venture. He was a lot older than Ramo & Wooldridge. I read the other day that Simon Ramo is still alive and he would have to be near 98 years old now.
