Re: choosing 4 bbl.
Early GM style WCFBs have the small bolt pattern that you need, but are expensive. Consider using the '55/'56 Teapot Holley. Ethanol resistant rebuild kits are readily available and they are much less expensive and easier to find than the WCFB. Just be sure and seal up the tubes that feed the float bowl securely so that there are no fuel leaks. These are good performing carburetors on a flathead.

Re: choosing 4 bbl.
Hello Rigley, I agree that the Carter WCFB's are a little more exspensive, not to mention, not the easiest to work on. Some 1956 Mercury's did come with them also, and were set up with a spark valve and designed for the loadomatic distributor advance system. Not sure what distributor you will be using on you're flathead. I'm partial to the teapots, because I know them well and have worked on them for a long time. I'm currently restoring one for a 1953 Lincoln. The first and only year for mechanical secondaries on a teapot. Teapots are designed for auto chokes, and since the chokes were mounted to the intake manifold, it may make it difficult to have an auto or manual choke unless you have an aftermarket manifold with a spot to mount one. If you are interested in the carb I have I would need $350 for it. Fully guaranteed. I'll attach some pictures of one I did and sold earlier this year. The one I am finishing now will appear the same as the pictures. Also in 1956, the teapots had a carb mounted auto choke. These are on EBAY regularly, and could rebuild or restore for you also. Re: choosing 4 bbl.
Are there after-market air cleaners available for the teapot?

Re: choosing 4 bbl.
I don't think there are aftermarket air cleaners with a paper element that tall. Would probably have to use one with a 5 1/8" dia. neck size and find a tall filter element for the same dia. or stack two thin filters. I think Morosso used to make one with a tall element. |

Purolator A63180 Or, you can do as scicala suggests and stack 2 each 3" elements on top of each other. |
