I think it would just bind. You don't have a way to align the threads of each half, and the socket isn't going to force the two halves together like the split die would.

For threads that are not really bad, I have taken the Castellated Nut, put it on backwards and started working it with oil turn by turn. Not as professional as can be done, but those nuts are hard and have hard gaps to do a bit of cleanup if you keep it oiled. Worth a try.
