Re: Banger Fuel Injection
Dave,
Just a guess, but when the second carb starts to open, it takes the signals away from the primary carb and goes lean, stumble. You will be amazed at how good the response can be with the EFI as it never has to deal with a vacuum signal. Oh, and just a thought, make sure the vent for the surge tank is high enough to prevent the main tank from overfilling the lower tank. (vent to top of std tank) John

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
John,
The lean condition happens at two throttle positions at speed in the higher gears (4th and overdrive) under mild load at the same engine rpm. It happens with the progressive linkage or the 1:1 non-progressive linkage. I have tried everything I have thought of to remedy the issue, but it sneaks back. A quick change of the throttle and it vanishes. I have been, and could live with it. Thanks for the comment on the vent. I realized that need and will run the vent as high as I can get it under the hood hinge next to the tank. Eyeballing from the top of the proposed vent to the gas cap, I think I will lose about 1 gallon of capacity in the original tank because I will need to keep the level in the tank below the top of the vent, plus a margin for "slosh". I am toying with the idea of a vent with a float activated stop/vent plug. In the end, I think I will increase my capacity by 3.5 to 4 gallons of fuel without the vent stop and to a total of 16 gallons if the vent stop idea works out. Thanks for your comments. I'll keep my progress posted to this thread over the next two months as the parts arrive and are installed. I will post some photos of the equipment/installation. Good Day! Re: Banger Fuel Injection
Anybody have have thoughts as to what would work best for an intake manifold? I am aware of 2 styles; the style that is for a Stromberg 3 bolt style, and the style for a Webber. There may be other styles but I don’t know of them. Some type of adapter would be required. Any idea which manifold to start with and where it might be possible to get an adapter (I’m afraid that I don’t have the skills or equipment to make one)?

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
I spoke with Holley tech support today, they say that the Sniper can’t be installed upside down and the lowest horsepower it was designed for was 75hp. They don’t say that it won’t work they just won’t say it will. I know of at least one individual using the Sniper successfully on a Willys flat head 134 CI motor that is rated at 60hp. In addition, the Model A motor is 200 CI, it’s a big motor that could move a lot of air. I think that part of the reason that he horsepower is so low is that it is a small carburetor.

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
https://fitechefi.com/ is the company that originally did the Mooneyes EFI that looked like a Stromberg 97. Talked to them several years ago and they indicated an interest in looking into a 2 barrel EFI. Most of the Mooneyes 2 barrel setups were for three and four carb manifolds.

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
fuel-injected Model A?
I seem to recall Ira Landis at Schwalm's has already done it. saw photos of it here or somewhere similar......

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
I wonder if Holley is concerned that the metering below 75hp would be out of the range of the computer controlling the injector. The injector may have a lower limit to the size of the spurt of gasoline so it would always run rich. The weird thing about that is: When a higher horsepower engine is near idle, it would still need the smaller amount of gasoline.

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
We have installed over 20 sniper units on V-8 Ford and Chev motors. We have one on
our shop truck and they work awsome. We even have a holley terminator on a blown flathead V-8 in a 48 Ford Woody. I think the 1bl sniper would work well on a "touring" Model A Motor. I would use a weber manifold for the large plenum that would be underneath the throttle body. The snipers like a plenum. All thats needed is a flat plate made up for the throttle body to sit on. Some of the snipers are using the distributor curve in the distributor and others are using a custom setting with a lap top. We might be turbo charging and putting a sniper on a Burtz motor just for ha ha's. |

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
What ever happened to the folks that wanted to install the Holley Sniper injection? Does anyone have driving experience with one of these yet?

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
Picked this up a couple weeks ago. Holley 500cfm 2bbl on custom manifold. He also built one with a pair of 370cfm carbs for his 4 port Rutherford head - I'm still looking for that one.
Same base as the Sniper. I'd have more concern about the average Model A clogging the fuel filters than oiling the sensor. Last edited by ModelA29; 12-01-2023 at 09:52 PM. |

Re: Banger Fuel Injection
I drove my Sniper 1100 fuel injected Burtz engine 11,500 miles this past summer while on a road trip to Alaska. The Burtz engine has a Miller Hi-Speed head on it. The system worked flawlessly. The EFI improved the fuel economy over dual Stromberg carbs by 3 mpg.
