Does it make a difference on hooking up the 2 hoses from the control valve to the ram? They are the same size and not sure if it makes a difference? What will happen if it does make a difference and get switched?

Yes it's a double acting ram, if it's hooked opposite it will push against the direction your turning. Probably a battle a person wouldn't win. Hopefully someone here has the diagram that covers.

Over the years, I saw them reversed many times. When you hook them up, keep the front wheels off the ground when you start the car. Reach in the car and attempt to turn the wheel. If the hoses are wrong, the steering wheel will cycle VIOENTLY back and forth. Shut off the car and reverse the hoses.

I did that once on an old 56 Chevrolet system. When the engine started the wheel spun hard to full lock (hard enough it hurt the guy starting the car) and then puked fluid all over under the car. Try to get it right the first time.

I did not want to say what actually happened as then I would have gotten many answers not as correct as this. So Long story short. I had them hooked up backwards then. Steering wheel was doing exactly what packrat5 said. Scared the crap out of me. Thank God the car was on 4 jack stands and my hand was not near the steering wheel...I only hope I did NOT screw something up. But I did switch them around. So tomorrow I will see. Thanks so much For a second there I thought I had a Ford Christine car
