Crescent wrench
A friend showed me an old crescent wrench he says is from a model T or an A. What is the square tab on the end of it for?

Re: Crescent wrench
Plugs on the differential are removed by that part of the "MONKEY" or adjustable wrench.

Re: Crescent wrench
Looks like that wrench was made by Ford, not the Crescent Tool Co. Genuine Crescent brand adjustable wrenches have the "Crescent" logo on them.

Re: Crescent wrench
People must have been a lot stronger back then.... Even though it fits the diff drain plug, what was the intended method of turning the wrench with so very little leverage?

Re: Crescent wrench
Either that or close down the jaws of the monkey wrench and use one of the open end wrenches or tire iron in the tool kit for leverage.

Re: Crescent wrench
We always called that style wrench a monkey wrench because it was used by grease monkeys!

Re: Crescent wrench
Calling it a Crescent wrench, you might have to pay Crescent royalties for using their name.

Re: Crescent wrench
In the early 70's when the cheapo tools started coming around I bought an adjustable wrench because it said 200 MM on it.I just wanted to say I had a metric adjustable, and it is still hanging on my toolbox. It was made by Oxwall.I had a shop teacher that would flip out if you asked for Vise Grips.I think he called them a clamp wrench.20 years later I was putting some new air bags in his GMC coach,he was passing me tools and he asked if I needed the Vise Grips. It was lots of fun yelling at the teacher for a change.

Re: Crescent wrench
Also called a "Thumb Wrench", as you use your thumb for adjusting. Jeff

Re: Crescent wrench
haha I used to drive a guy at work up a wall by calling it a crossont wrench. He asked why do I say it like that? I told him it got its name as it used to be how they bent the crossont rolls to their signature curved shape - you used 2 at each end of the straight roll and bend - when the handles meet its properly bent.

Re: Crescent wrench
I always thought it was called a crescent wrench because the jaws form, well...a crescent!

We don't call it a wrench - we call it a spanner!
