Barrett Jackson Model A sale
Lot 51 shows a 1931 Tudor sold for $25,300 yesterday 1-15-18 at Scottsdale.
Nice looking mostly stock car with a Mitchell overdrive and probable 35 Ford Wheels. It was on the "Motor Trend Live Stage" where it was discussed and filmed it after the sale.

Re: Barrett Jackson Model A sale
"and so out of curiosity- how much commission does BJ get from the 25k?" If I recall the commission use to be 8% seller, 10% buyer so 4500, which is about standard in this rarefied field of auctions.. Would like to go one day just to see the eye candy, but too far away from VA
nice looking Tudor and depending on the quality of the work it would be difficult to get one restored for that price. Not into the plastic fuel line filter. curious, do they let you really look at the vehicles? Would not dare buy something, especially at that price without a complete inspection, and then , without a ride, it is still a gamble. I watch it every year and have seen few sales that I would consider a bargain. Last edited by holdover; 01-17-2018 at 10:55 AM. |

Re: Barrett Jackson Model A sale
Does that look like the kind of engine compartment detailing one would expect in a $25,000 Model A? Where else were corners cut in this restoration? $25,000???

Re: Barrett Jackson Model A sale
As I remember, the Mary Tyler Moore car has a more modern Chassis with Buick V6 engine.

Re: Barrett Jackson Model A sale
I'd estimate to be about $18K max.

[QUOTE=holdover;1580458. I have seen few sales that I would consider a bargain.[/QUOTE]
That pretty well sums it all up. Time the show. They sell on average 3 cars then break for 8 minutes of commercials usually the same spiel over and over then back to 3 cars, repeat. More and more are 'We have a 2006 BMW--------- or here's a 1999 Corvette or a 2010 Shelby or whatever..........". who gives a rat's behind about that crap not me. I won't sit for 6 hours and watch that I only DVR it, fast fast forward if something catches my eye (which is very little these days) will stop to watch, then back to 32X speed. Usually a Model A or a 1930's car or pickup is coming up and then the commercial break when they come back that car is long gone and you're looking at 'What an outstanding 2007 Shelby with 102 original miles. Gee Steve that car listed at $65,000 new and it only brought $23,000 today..........' Yawn. |

Re: Barrett Jackson Model A sale
You can inspect the cars only if you have a bidding pass.
The Phaeton is really nice. The rest was so called fully restored. |

Re: Barrett Jackson Model A sale
People drink, they get into a pixxing contest, a buddy eggs them on, my father had one just like that, people haven't done their homework( or in some cases they have). The cars are all available for a vision inspection prior to their being auctioned off, anyone was able to look (I believe). Went to the BJ at Mohican Sun Casino here in CT two years ago (free ticket). Quite an experience. Some celebs present. Crossed it off my "bucket" list.

Re: Barrett Jackson Model A sale
For those of you who want to watch the BJ auction, without the talking heads and commercials, go to http://www.barrett-jackson.com/ click on watch live feed, sigh up (no cost or obligation) and watch the auction without interruption. Been doing it this way for a couple of years
