Cowl light wire routing behind cowl panel
Installing the cowl light wiring and the instructions that came with the wiring says that the part where the two wires are enclosed in a loom should go up through the cowl pillar, however in that gase the wire is too short. Should the wires rather just hang straight down behind the cowl panel from the left cowl lamp ? Would it not be fastened in any way ? After exiting from the body between the outer cowl skin and floorboard riser into the engine compertment, is the loom routed over or under the engine mounts?

Re: Cowl light wire routing behind cowl panel
My wires come up the inside of the firewall and then branch over to each lamp plug receptacle.

Mine come through the firewall and then branch just like J said. I think I tied them up somehow if I remember right. But I think they just hang and go behind the kick panels.

Re: Cowl light wire routing behind cowl panel
The wire passes between the left frame rail and frame extension (floorboard support). Not much space, but enough. I believe the single un-loomed wire is run here (under the engine mount) and connects to the harness. This wire can be clipped to the rail with the rear loom. Originally there was a ceramic or bakelite connector housing clipped to the left frame rail, but modern harnesses have a bullet receptacle. Inside, the loom runs across the firewall, supported by three clips. Two attach to the screws holding the hood lacing at the sides, the third to the upper-left screw of the junction box.
You can also run the loom part forward and support the single wire inside with the rubber grommets included with the supports sold by the vendors. |

Snyder's (and others I'm sure) have the correct cowl light connector mentioned above https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...earchByKeyword

Yes, it's available for "correct" cars. That's why I said run the single wire to the harness. Hard to connect two wires together on one end of that connector.
But it makes better electrical sense to run the loom end forward - dedicated wire for each lamp. |

Re: Cowl light wire routing behind cowl panel
Even tho my car is a driver I like to keep it as "correct" as possible...
The available wiring harness is configured to route the wires "correct" so why not do it. The two wires are already connected https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...earchByKeyword Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 08-26-2019 at 11:00 AM. |
