Re: Help Identifying a Transmission.
I know the F1's had open driver line, but I believe they were floor shift, and they ran from '48 - '52. So did side shift open drive line show up in F100s starting with 51 or 52 ? Thank you.

Re: Help Identifying a Transmission.
'51 was the first full year for column-shifted F-1's. I believe some late '50's were equipped with them, too. All '48-'52 trucks were open drive.

Re: Help Identifying a Transmission.
I think they may have begun offering the column shifter in 1950 models but the pickup truck experts can confirm that. The Ford F-1 pickup line ran from 1948 through 1952. The open drive Toploader (floor shift) was the standard 3 speed transmission all of those years. The Sideloader (column shift) was optional for sure in ‘51-52 but I suspect it was also available for 1950 models.
Beginning with 1953 truck production, the F series trucks model designation changed from the F-1 to F-100 and was a whole new design. At this point the light duty 3 speed transmission became column shift only. Ford still offered the optional Heavy Duty 3 speed floor shift and the optional 4 speed floor shift transmissions, but no more Light Duty floor shift transmissions in the F-100.

Re: Help Identifying a Transmission.
Thank you Mac. That clarifies it, as I thought all '48-52 p/ups, F1 were floor shifft.

.
Also, don't forget that '42-'47 1/2-ton pick-ups were also floor-shifted and open drive. DD . |

Re: Help Identifying a Transmission.
Yes, of course that is very true. The photo was of the Sideloader version so my identification remarks were based on that. The toploader version existed from 1942-52. The sideloader version of the transmission with the big bell housing shape to the front was produced from 1950-52.
