Quick question
how far back will the numbers be on the frame for ID or VIN.
31 four door SW. I can see almost to the center post on top of the frame. this one could be one of those with-out numbers? thanks.

Re: Quick question
Not sure if this helps, ... My 31 Tudor made in April of 31 has the VIN on the top-center of the middle cross member. The digits are .375" tall and I DO NOT have an star or the letter (A) in it. My serial number is just 8 digits in length. From what I have been able to find out on the web, they were doing some weird stuff in 31.

Re: Quick question
The vin number is located on top of the driver's side of the frame rail just about directly under the A pillar. Example in photo below. The number your found on top of the middle cross frame member is good information on where the the model A was assembled and some more information from it can be gleaned from it, but not a vin number..

Re: Quick question
SSsssteamer,
Well according to the DMV in North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and now California (in that order) say it is. The number on the cross member reads, … 44646569 Paperwork that came with the car which I verified by phone with Nevada DMV, shows the locations to look for a 1931 VIN. and my chassis with that number is from March 1931. Ref to pic. I read online somewhere, and it figures I can't find it right now, but it basically said, that around the time my car was born things were changing fast as the A's were coming to an end. They pretty much used what ever they could and did what ever they had to do to get the parts out the door. Shoot, some cars frames were never even stamped with any numbers. Regards Bill |

Re: Quick question
The serial numbers during the model A period got just above 4,900,000 - not 44,000,000. Your numbers were, most likely, assigned by a state DMV. Be happy that everyone has accepted what you have.

Re: Quick question
I have a '31 SW town sedan, I found the number stamped on the floor, drivers side, about where your foot would rest pulled against the seat, near the door.
I have a pic somewhere on my puter.

Re: Quick question
My Charlotte NC assembled late 31 has it's serial number on the frame, left side under the cowl. The cross ,member number identified it as a Charlotte built car. The NC Title used the serial number...Car was first titled in Ashville NC. I bought the car in Raleigh NC in 1956, 3rd owner (My fathers name since i was a minor).I don't have the numbers at hand. Gave the car to my son for his 50th B'day a few years ago. I took my drivers exam in it in Raleigh. My son took his exam in it in Florida. Grand son decided not to because it was hot in Aug. and the car has no A/C. Oh well....
