Re: Fuel pressure regulator
Have almost same exact same hardware on my 39. No regulator (only difference I removed mech pump) and no problem. After week, turn car on, one pump to floor and car starts right up.

Re: Fuel pressure regulator
That is only a 4 psi pump. You really don't need a regulator if you are just priming the carb. On my Hobby Shop member cars I use a momentary switch so they will not leave it on. Run it for 15 to 30 seconds and you will be good to go.

Re: Fuel pressure regulator
I use a Holly reg with a sight gauge and keep the PSI around 2#. It works perfect.

Re: Fuel pressure regulator
I have the Airtex E8902 pumps installed on my '32 & '50 without the fuel regulator. Works fine. I use primarily for priming. I also recommend the "momentary" toggle switch, however; when driving in city traffic...you may need to keep your finger on the toggle switch to engage the fuel pump for longer periods (vapor lock). I removed the momentary toggle switch from my '50 in favor of a "momentary-off-on" toggle switch. Works great when you are experiencing vapor lock situations. I can't drive through Atlanta, GA without vapor locking it seems. Good luck, Pat

Re: Fuel pressure regulator
For many years I've had an Airtex pump and don't use a pressure regulator. It puts out 3 psi when measured at the outlet of the mechanical pump (engine not running). I use it to prime the carb at start-up.
My mechanical pump also puts out 3 psi. I understand 3 psi is at the upper recommended limits for a stock one-carb 59AB. Last edited by Drbrown; 05-24-2017 at 11:33 PM. |
