Default A Dennis Carpenter Complaint?? UPDATED!!!

A few weeks ago I ordered and received some parts from Dennis Carpenter like I do from time to time. Didn't really look closely at ones I wasn't using immediately and now that I'm wanting to use them I've run into problems. My '38 came to me equipped with sealed beam headlight conversion which I'm going to switch back to original style. I've collected all the parts needed or so I thought but when I got the new headlight bucket wires out I found them to be of very poor quality. No clothe covering on individual wires or clothe over all, just cheap vinyl tubing. When I tried to install on a reflector the brass ends fell apart, checked their website and I did not get what they pictured. Will be contacting them on Monday about this. Link is from their site and they charge $59.95 for what I got, complete garbage. https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/en/...t-bucket-wires

Much better to try and resolve an issue first before you bring attention to it on the internet.

Just trying to warn others that what they have posted on their website is not what you get. Getting the word out if you will.

The important part is how they resolved the problem. Please post it.

No supplier better than Carpenter. That's been my experience. You probably don't want cloth where wires are exposed to all the crap splashing around in a fender.

the answer from carpenter will be "never had that problem before" which is their standard answer to any inquiry

I don't see any problem with that. The important part is what do they do afterwards.

Gary, Quite similar to your issue was a recent experience I had with them. I had purchased a pair of sockets / wire looms for my 36. They came and were not even CLOSE to what (original) as they'd advertised. Yes, they took them back with no issue. However, I was out of shipping for both trips.
THAT folks is not right. When a company makes a mistake it is only ethical that company make good on the transaction. In other words, there should be no loss to the buyer.
I was out around $20 because of their false advertising.
So Gary, I am on your side of this debacle. Letting others know they advertise one thing and ship another is noble of you and will allow others to avoid making the same "mistake".
I'll be interested to see whether or not you are reimbursed for your postage.

I think you have Carpenter mixed up with Drake.

I recall clearly on the "old" Barn when someone had started a post about water pumps with the mounting holes so far off as to not fit the block. Drake said "never heard of that issue before". There were more than 30 subsequent posts from folks that bought the same (garbage) pumps and were told the exact same thing.
I also recall Drake's floor board seals not fitting worth a darn. I was told "never heard of that before". Even after I had posted photos of his seals placed against authentic boards, they still insisted they fit just fine.
Yeah, uh huh... sure they did. Too bad there were many that had come forward with the same issue.

Hopefully Dennis's son is not taking lessons from drake on how to (NOT) run an ethical business.
There are reasons why folks have trusted Mr. Carpenter for decades.

That's the guy

Ordered five things from him last week... well, I'd attempted to order five things. They had two of them. I figured I'd called on a good day.

When I got a bad headlight switch from Carpenter recently, they sent me another one and did not require that I send the first one back. So no extra postage expense. If they require the old one back, they should cover return postage but usually they don't want the first one back.

You could contact Tyree Harris and see if he would make up the correct cloth looms to your headlamp and park light fittings.

I recently ordered a headlight switch from Shoe Box Central for my '54 Ranch Wagon. It was a Carpenter switch and it was defective. Contacted Shoe Box and they IMMEDIATELY put another in the mail with a return postage paid mailer tag. If the vendor wants the defective part or misrepresented part returned (in my case, Shoe Box obviously needed it to get credit back from Carpenter) then the vendor should pay for the return. Period, no questions asked. JMO

Called Carpenter this morning and they are going to e-mail a return tag for these parts. I will update again about a monetary refund. I understand that some might think I should have just dealt with the vendor but what about the next guy who gets these inferior parts? If the parts I received had been properly posted on their website I would have never ordered them. My thinking is when misrepresented parts are sold to us it needs to be brought to everyone's attention. Also have an order with Third Generation Parts for the bucket wires, you have to install sockets on the headlight wires but I have extras in very good condition to do this.
