Default 226 flathead Ignition timing

Hello everyone I'd appreciate some advice on how to set the timing for my 226 flathead 6
I have a little knowledge on how to get at TDC and line up the little dot on the pulley with the pointer
But I get stuck with adjusting , I have a timing light and a vacuum pump so which would be best to Use?
Also my carburetor is a aftermarket single barrel
It's a generic brand any help would be grateful 🙏

What year or model? The G was early and an H was later. I have an H and adjusting timing is rather normal by rotating the distributor. Does the G have it's distributor on the front of the timing cover facing the radiator?

I just rotate the distributor to hit the mark on the crank pulley with the timing light. I have never gotten to know ignition timing really well, but I think you need to remove and plug the vaccuum line while setting timing. Really I'm not the best guy to help on this, I just happen to have recently installed a used H into an engineless 'parts truck'. I tend to adjust timing by smooth idle, vaccuum gauge and pinging under load.
