Wood Pieces for 1936 Coupe Seat
In the continuing saga of trying to piece together a seat for my 1936 3 window coupe I was wondering if anyone has paper templates or dimensioned photos / drawings for the backrest spring wood frame (the part that swings up), the cushion spring wood frame, and the plywood side panels. Looking at old threads, there is one from 2019 started by 50droptop, initially in regard to the shouldered pivot bolt used with the backrest prop assembly. As part of the discussion there is a fantastically helpful series of photos posted by Karl Wescott. One of them is of a fully dimensioned wood backrest support (the stationary part). I would PM Karl and 50droptop directly, but I do not have enough posts to qualify for PMing. BTW, if you look at Karl's photos one shows the center brace in the steel seat base that I refer to in my post re: '36 coupe seat frames from earlier today. Thank you - any help much appreciated!

You do know that if you have 10 posts you can post and respond to PM's. A few pictures of your car would be interesting to all of us and would quickly boost your post count.
Inane questions and comments will do to get you over the threshold in a pinch. |

I also narrowed my package tray and set the whole assembly further back to give myself more leg room. I'm 6'2" and getting in and out of the stock placement wasn't real easy, always scuffing the door edge exiting the car. |

Re: Wood Pieces for 1936 Coupe Seat
Where I am in the mid-western Canadian prairies the high temp was -12C (10F), actually above average for this time of year. By Christmas Day, however, the high is expected to be -24C (-11F) with a low that night of -32C (-26F). That is because the Russians will have sent some "Siberian air" our way by then.

Post #9 - No new snow forecasted for Christmas day, but a couple of inches called for on Dec 24. We already have enough for a white Christmas, but the new stuff will clean things up a bit.

Post #10!! - I have been as nice as can be expected of a crochety old Ford guy. Thank you V8COOPMAN for the help in getting me to 10 posts. Also thank you for the support you gave me re: my Bradley Floor Pans issue (loved your "enthusiastic exhortation" requesting Paul get on my floor pans order!).

johndee138 - Thanks for the suggestion. I will certainly give it consideration if things do not start to go better with the original seat plan. I have the opposite problem to you. I am built too close to the ground and will likely have to slide the seat as far forward as it will go!

Re: Wood Pieces for 1936 Coupe Seat
Karl - Thanks for posting the super-informative photos and dimensioned diagram. Do you by any chance have similarly dimensioned photos of the pivoting backrest spring wood frame and/or seat cushion spring wood frame for a '36 coupe seat? That would also be great information.

Couple drawings of the seat back and cushion wood along with some pics of the pieces themselves.

Re: Wood Pieces for 1936 Coupe Seat
I should have mentioned that the notch in the bottom wood is there to clear the back stud on the seat track. The last studs protrude above the level of the metal seat pan.

Seat back hinge detail.
The drawing of the hinge Karl W. posted can be useful if you have to make one. |

Re: Wood Pieces for 1936 Coupe Seat
I put together a '40 coupe seat many years ago. By 1940 the march toward metal seats was a bit behind for the cheap cars like the coupes. The base had gone metallic but the coupe back frame was still wood with the top swinging cushion. Could it be that the coupe hardware and frame could provide some parts for your '36? This could feel more like archeology than trimming. There seems to be more surviving '40 parts than others. Good Luck: Fred A
