Default turn signal suggestions?

Self-canceling turn signal suggestions? '33/'34 . . . or is it practical to use a one-for-all? Thank you.

Self cancelling is not feasible with a stock steering column. I have a really loud clicker (it is a specially modified part) on the flasher for my old-style add-on type turn signal. Even with my hearing aids off, I never forget to cancel.

I have one of these units with a small two way intermittent switch on the edge of my dash in the 32 and very happy with it.

Thank you, Glennpm. But too much $$$; and no special accessories needed.

A method I have used several times on early Fords is use the tube and upper cup from a 53 to 56 F100 steering. The turn signal switch is contained in the cup and the cancelling sleeve pushes on the stock steering shaft. The lever is small and very unobtrusive.
The only critical thing is to index the sleeve properly so it cancels the same each direction.

In my '36 coupe I had years ago I found a vintage 7 wire turn signal switch that had a wheel .When adjusted correctly the wheel rode on the back of the steering wheel hub.Self cancelling worked great. Here is one so you get the idea.On mine the wheel was angled like this. Send me a PM if you want the contact info on the seller.

My !936 Sedan has a turn signal switch similar to what Deuce Lover has photographed and it works well. So, self-cancelling is possible, you just need to find the right vintage switch. I'll see if I can get a good picture later today

Wait a minute! Isn't it an American tradition for an old guy to be driving down the road with one blinker going?

I assume you want self cancelling turn signals do to the many miles of having your directional blinking with no intention of turning as myself are guilty. I just wired in one of the inexpensive 12volt piezo alarms, they even work on 6 volts.
It was actually too loud and I had to put a piece of tape over it.

Thanks, but won't need an alarm. Thank you.

My wife poking me in the ribs, w/the question, "Are you keeping it on all day?" is alarm enough . . . . .

Thanks, CaliforniaBorn36. The Deuce Lover photo is too large to comprehend.

I did exactly the same thing, picked up the buzzer for .99 on eBay, and wrapped it with some black electrical tape.

Another option but not cheap is a unit from a vintage British car.
https://mossmotors.com/switch-turn-signal-on-dash

Info from Moss Motors:

Inside the body of the switch there is a piston with a flexible seal around the outside edge. This
creates an air chamber in the back of the switch housing. Air can be forced out of the chamber past the
seal, but the only way for air to enter this chamber is through an adjustable air bleed valve. There is also
a spring that presses against the back of the piston, holding it against the nose of the switch in the “at
rest” or “off” position. Rotating the lever on the nose of the switch pushes the piston back against the
spring, expelling air from the chamber. When the lever is released, the spring pushes on the back of the
piston, but the piston can only move as air bleeds back into the chamber through a small adjustable air
bleed valve in the back of the switch. A small set screw in the valve can be adjusted to control the rate at
which air bleeds back into the chamber, which in turn determines how long the turn signals stay on before
they cancel. Most people find 15-20 seconds to be a useable time interval. Test the operation of the
switch before installation; a small flat-bladed screw driver may be used to adjust the bleed screw if you
wish to adjust the delay

Hopefully the attached photos of the Turn signal switch in place will help. It rides against the back of the steering wheel hub. The following information is on the case of the switch

Folks,
Sorry to take this down a winding path.

Just wondering if you do leave the blinker on after a turn, which I have done on the 32 truck, is there a worlds record for length of time, or number of states you entery, exit before remembering it? Just kidding here. But I am glad I have blinkers at all since I dont think many folks understand turn signals at all!
BTW some good ideas here to solve the problem too.
Regards,
Chris

I’m still using my arm . Problem is that most folks don’t know what I’m doing, they think I’m being friendly and waive back.
