39 Deluxe Headlights - The guts
My 39 deluxe sedan came to me with aftermarket 40 style seal beam lights and bucket trim. I have removed these and am left with empty headlight buckets and no idea what to look for to put the lights back to original. I have sourced original glass and trim. Does anyone have a picture of the interior of the headlight bucket showing the retainer, reflector, and bulb?
thank you Patrick |

Google Vintique 1939 Ford deluxe headlamps and see what comes up.

Re: 39 Deluxe Headlights - The guts
The 37/38 and 39 std and deluxe buckets are the same except the 39 deluxe has a pair of mounting brackets fixed to the sides for the wider lens and retainer. The 39 std and deluxe reflectors are very similar except for the uppermost mounting tab which gives the reflector a different angle.

my opinion of coarse, but I like the look of the aftermarket sealed beam on those cars. I drive my cars, some times at night and the sealed beam is a wonderful thing for night driving after dark

I have put several ads in the "wanted" section and did find a few parts from legitimate people. Mostly my experience in the "wanted" section has been the following scammer replying to every post. My search continues. Patrick |

Try looking in the used parts section in Hemmings. If you don't see the specific parts, give some of those old guys a call. lots of parts out there.

Re: 39 Deluxe Headlights - The guts
It is a very difficult project to convert a car with reflector type head lights back to original if you don't have the correct parts and info for same.
The bulbs, 36-39 are generally all the same, they are a pre-focused bulb that matches the prisms in the lens. Halogen/Led bulbs do not work well.. Been there done that. Good reflectors are had to find, generally the reflectors need to be re-silvered. The bulbs and receptacles can be difficult to find. The majority of the aftermarket receptacles are absolute junk. I spent over two years finding the parts to convert my '39 Plym from halogen back to the original reflector type of lights.

Re: 39 Deluxe Headlights - The guts
35 thru 39 use the same headlight bulb (2330) and their light bulb sockets are the same. So you should be able to locate if necessary.
I have NOS adjustment screws if your looking for some. Last edited by Terry,OH; 08-15-2022 at 06:51 AM. |
