Ford was very competitive in pricing, so much so that they actually lost money on the Special models. The deletion of certain extras did not make up for those losses, but the more Fords on the road was good for business with the DeLuxe and Super Deluxe models.

Alan, reminds me of the situation with the F150 and the car lines a few years back. The F150 was CAFE negative so they needed to sell Focus and Fusions to offset those numbers and not get fined from what we were told. F150 is now CAFE neutral. I've had 12 1942-48 Ford's but never a 41. I still think about a 1941 Super Deluxe 3 pass coupe I could've bought in 1973 for $225 but was gone by the time I found the money. There was also a 1 owner 1941 light green station wagon in a barn 1/2 a mile from our house. I would not chase a 41 short door coupe out of the driveway...

I googled PA CAFE and all I got was restaurants. I suppose it’s a law, but can’t find it.

Trying to set a friend’s expectations.

Thank you.
Jacuqes, thank for your understanding with '41 ugly ducking discussion. As a seller, I think you friend's best bet would be advertising both condition and drivability. These cars can be a lot of fun if they're good lookers AND drivable.

I'd subtract $5k to $10k from the $30 if it's a b***h to drive but otherwise nicely restored to local show winner quality.

Honestly, in a Hershey Concours or Detroit survivor show, the values are way down and not going any higher. The people that remember and appreciate these cars are not too young.

So true - as the “Greatest Generation” moves on, interest in these earlier cars is waning; Boomers, like me, remember the Camaro and Mopar Hotwheels of their youth, bidding up prices accordingly. Personally ? I’m totally smitten with the elegant lines of the pre-war / post-brass era cars.

Jacques, I must, once again, remind of the Silent Generation. We Silents are the ones who are losing control of the hobby, the running board cars of our youth falling from favor as we pass on. We are of the generation who's parents taught us to be seen and not heard, the value of a dollar, and to face away from windows under our school desks during air raid drills. It was the Silents who built Hot Rods with chopped tops in grey primer, and Frenched the headlights of our next cars. We Silents abhorred the ugliness of Wrap Around Windshields, Dagmars, and Chrome Spears. It is the Silent Generation that is now rapidly becoming forever silent.

If I remember correctly, Ron Thorne’s completely restored 41 convertible sold last January in the $26,000 area. It looked great, only one bidder also (if I remember).

Thank you for this; really well said, and words which Boomers, like me, should heed.

OK everyone, ready to be dumbstruck ???

While I counseled an expectation of $25-27k “on a good day”, the car went under the hammer last night for….$36,000 !!!!!

Engine bay was pretty tatty, red paint on motor aside, iffy paint job, many incorrect details.

Wow.

Auctions can be very fickle as we all know. You were proper not to "go there". If you really want a '41 convertible, keep searching. $36k is now #1, high point condition value.

It appears that all sedan convertibles and phaetons have taken a giant plunge in value as well. Thus, you'll be able to find a NICE one for reasonable cost.
Yep, there are guys who remain out of touch with reality that are asking prices related more to 1995 than 2022.
Their widows will surely get a lesson in reality all too soon.
My theory? No younger guy wants these body styles. Not very conducive to hot rod or otherwise "modernize". We, the older fellas sure are no longer collecting them.
Another example of supply and demand.

One in my hometown went for $37k and change last September. Was a Dearborn winner.
