I had a similar thing happen a few years ago. The noise would only occur when de-accelerating. The cause was found to be that several tabs that connect the engine splash pans to the engine pan had broken. The noise was caused by the tabs vibrating against the pan. I had the tabs welded and made some brackets to better support the tabs.
