Late 31 Budd cab pickup
Looking at a late 31 Budd cab pickup to purchase. Have a question and having a hard time finding the answer. I know the all metal top is all one piece. Is the metal top and the sun visor above the front window also included in that all metal top as one piece of metal? This pickup looks as though the two pieces of metal are bondoed together above the header wood. The top is smooth where you would have a tacking strip above the header wood on a normal pickup.

Re: Late 31 Budd cab pickup
Yes, from the Ford Manuals I've read -- Budd Fords came out August 1931. Yes, the top and visor were stamped as one piece. Yes, the 'bows' are steel also. Ford didn't go 'all-steel' until Model year 1937 in his other models -- but the Pickup's did when they came from Budd.. I have '31 Pickup and it's exactly like your pictures. And that's my single reason why I bought my '31 -- all other roofs would rot/leak if negelected

Re: Late 31 Budd cab pickup
I've got a Budd "31 pickup too. I've got 2 wide boxes with good tailgates and need to sell one. As soon as I "refigure" out how to post it for sale here it will be on the forum

Budd was or maybe still is a large pressed steel company . They were a subcontractor to Ford . They made other bodies for Ford such as some fordors .

Re: Late 31 Budd cab pickup
Edward G Budd was the owner of the Budd Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, began in 1912. Ford out-sourced some of his models to them. Wood was expensive in PA, steel mills was aplenty. Reference: Henry's Lady by Ray Miller |
