Default 38 four door convertible top questions

Hi guys, I have a friend over in Mena, AR that just bought a 1938 four door convertible. The top needs replaced. He contacted L-B, they have a top kit for a 1937 but not a 1938. L-B did know if the 37 and 38 were identical or not. I thought L-b new all about all old fords. There were only about 2400 of the 1938 four door convertibles built. Any one know if the 37 and 38 tops are the same? Thanks, Phil.

I'm assuming that the car is a Convertible Sedan, not a Phaeton. the '38 - '39 Ford Book, (put out by the EFV8 Club) may be of some help. I replaced the top on my '39 Ford Convertible Sedan around twelve years ago, got it from a company in Queens, NY. CRS got me but, if you Google it, you should be able to find a number of companies that make them.

Looks can be deceiving, especially with Ford Convertibles... In '38, there was (what I think was an option), where the side bars of the top, (from the "B" Pillar to the header bow) folded in, allowing you to open just the front of the top, and keep the rear portion up. Hopefully someone on the FordBarn has a '38 CS and can provide correct information.
