Default 1929 A Ford sedan on rails

I thought that this 1929 Ford four door was interesting enough to post here. To return to home, spin the model a half a turn around, replace the drive chains and return home. Here in the northwest with all of the private logging railroads, we had many automobiles adapted to rail use, but nothing that I have ever seen that can compare to this.

I'm surprised it's geared down that much, unless it was used to pull a railroad car.

Also, how did they climb into it? Since the wheels are 4' 8 1/2" apart, and the heavy wood undercarriage is inside the wheels, it would be quite a climb up.

That is a great picture. I'm a railroad buff and have never seen a picture of a contraption like that. Logging railroads were usually low budget operations, re-purposing much of their equipment, seldom discarding anything. As far as the gear reduction, the trackage was marginal at best, limited to very low speeds. The As potential of speed of 40+mph would have been a death ride on most backwoods railroads.
