Default Location of inside rear view mirror for '31 pick up

My 1931 A Pick up was built from an AA Dump truck cab and it never had an inside rear view mirror from new. While looking at a '30 coupe today, the inside rear view mirror was mounted about 3 1/2" + off center to the left. Would this be about right for the Bud cab pick up inside rear view mirror too?

If the AA uses that same panel inside the windshield header as the A does, then there are two holes pre-drilled in the metal where the rearview mirror mounts. If you pull back the upholstered panel to exposed the metal of the header, you should see those holes. And, yes, the mirror is a few inches off-center.

Again, I have no experience with the AA. This is all assuming it is the same as the A.

Good luck,

Ken

I don't believe the closed cab pick up had an inside mirror.

Both the regular and Budd cab the steel header strip is drilled to take the bottom 2 screws the top screw goes in the wood block above . The offset is about 3 1/2 " to the drivers side .

My Budd cab would most likely have come off an AA dump truck years ago as someone has welded up the holes in the cab back where the accessory rear window guard was fitted . Did a Budd cab pickup ever come from the factory with the narrow bed ???

John in same weather Suffolk County England .

I couldn't say for certain that they did. However, information I have been able to assemble indicates that Henry was in the habit of using up all available parts whenever changes were in the pipeline, so, 1931 pickups could have:
• Flat firewall or indented firewall
• Narrow bed or wide bed
• Fabric top or steel top

Or any combination of the above.

My rig has an indented firewall, narrow bed, & steel top. I have no way of knowing if it actually came from the factory that way, but that's the way it was when I bought it.

In checking both of my black 1930 A pick up and my gull grey 1931 A Bud cab pick up, neither one of them have holes under the header covering for mounting the inside rear view mirror. I will just mount the insider rear view mirror at about 3 1/2" to the left of center. Thank you for your help.
