Collins offers both spellings with the meanings being the same:
distributor or distributer
noun

  • a person or thing that distributes
  • a wholesaler or middleman engaged in the distribution of a category of goods, esp to retailers in a specific area
  • the device in a petrol engine that distributes the high-tension voltage to the sparking plugs in the sequence of the firing order
I am not worried about the cost of pistons my problem is if I have to re-Babbitt the engine, that is where the cost of this becomes almost prohibitive. Anywho I do appreciate the help and all the words of wisdom will keep you informed on what I find.

The gear was damaged due to the spring on the bottom of the pan being broken, that is my guess as nothing else was damaged.

My guess is either the distributor or the oil pump is froze up.
