You can use to make sure you are right on for the #1 plug. If you can read what JDJason had in his picture of it, it shows how to use it.

Just speeds up setting the timing, and is pretty dummy-proof. I've used both the light bulb method and the Nurex wrench - and both seem to set to the exact same place. Once I had confidence in where the Nurex sets things, I just use it now; although how often do you have to set the timing?

Back when I had an intermittent short in the distributor, I was constantly taking everything apart, and had to set the timing a few times, but once it's set, it (hopefully) won't have to be reset very often...

WELL! To each his own, I still prefer the "modern" points, long lasting, cleaner contacts for longer life, no filing the points, no pitting, etc. It's also MUCH easier to tweek the stationary contact or the point arm to get a complete alignment of the contacts. Most failures are from crappy built condensors, NOT from the points themselves. I didn't use the wireless lower plate!! I COULD use it by modifying & careful installation of the little contact goodie that screws to the nut on the points & with lubrication where the contact travels on the brass strip.
IF the "modern" points were a junk design, then why didn't Ford just keep on using Model A points FOREVER??
YES! they're a little trickier to adjust, better done with the distributor in a vise, with good lighting & your 10 power DRUG STORE glasses, but remember, you DON'T have to adjust them every-other day if you use a good distributor cam lube. VASELINE is best used for OTHER important things--LOL & popping out the distributor WON'T mess up yore TIMING!
The idea of the circular contact area, was to alternate the firing point around the contact as the surface resistance increases at the firing point & causes the next firing to happen at a cooler area, where the resistance is less, thereby using ALL of the available surface in an alternating pattern, for longer point life, thereby lessening the "DEAD AT THE CURB SYNDROME"!!! (The Dog jist informed me that my sentence wuz WAAAAY too LOOONG"!!----"Smart assed Dog! We've all seen yore really BAD spellin' SO go back to sleep"!!) Bill W.
(First pic is Mallory, "modern" points, second pic is stock "modern" points)
TIP: When replacing "modern" points, if your condensor is working well, DON'T put in a new one! The new one "might" be a GYPPO, made in NO tellin' where???

I have never used one of these wrenches and I would bet I can set the timing faster and closer than most people can get the wrench out of the tool box. Do it the way Ford showed in the owners manual and it is easy.

i can do it both ways and i have found using the wrench puts it right on the money after double checking it the old school way and no further adjustments were needed

Thanks for the link Jason. I tried to order one on the website before but it wouldnt process for some reason. Got one coming , still going to learn how to do it buy the book just in case. Always nice to have more than one way to skin a cat. Lord knows ive wasted alot more money than this just on trying to get the correct windshield wiper arm and a blade that fits it. Got yet another wrong blade again today.. Geeze
