Re: AV8 Pickup Build With EFI
Probably not a lot over a well tuned engine. A couple of advantages may be the EFI handles the different altitudes better, you are able to input what air fuel ratio you want at different loads and RPM and with a crank trigger setup the ignition timing can be dialed in better (you can input what advance you want at any load and RPM). Is the fuel injection that much better --- No and a lot more work, would I do it again --- yes, it keeps the grey matter working and the challenge is fun. This is actually my third flathead injection, the first one I made the housings from scratch (2X2's) to look like carbs (well favor is a better word) and that system was my introduction to fuel injection and what a learning curve that was. I think the best bang for the bucks and less problems is a four barrel carburetor. But as I mentioned I would do it again , no regrets. Vergil

Re: AV8 Pickup Build With EFI
All you guys have had is the opportunity to see the pictures. Vergil and I both live in Tehachapi and are in the same club. I have had the distinct pleasure to see and hear both of his cars close up and personal. They are both incredible works of live art. Old Fart or not (look in you rear view mirror Vergil, I'm right there) this guy knows what to do.

Hey, thereare lot more old farts lurking in your mirrir, Vergil - great job on the flattie FI setup. It looks super and I will take deucemac's word for it in that they are as beautifully crafted as they are engineered. Thanks for posting your great work!

Re: AV8 Pickup Build With EFI
Again thanks, and what a surprise to see Mike respond from AZ, went to grade school near him (Dysart Elementary and was born in Buckeye) as for Doug (Deucemac) guess the comments he made will cost me a beverage of his choice the next time I see him, btw his avatar shows his very nice hemi powered deuce.
A few more pictures to show how the throttle position sensor is set up in the back carb using the accelerator linkage. The tps is from an '85 Buick Regal, both coupe and pickup use this setup and work good and are hidden with full range of 0-5 volts. Vergil

Re: AV8 Pickup Build With EFI
Thanks Ron but I have only showed the good pictures, I also have a few oops pictures and will share one of them. The first picture shows the setup I used to cut the injector bores, this is the second jig, the first jig I bored two injector ports and it dawned on me maybe I better see how the injectors were going to fit and -- yep the holes were cut to high in the port and there wasn't enough room for the injectors, so made another jig and drilled ONE hole this time and it gave me the room I needed but had four holes in the port now. Filled the two top ones and was on my way again. Vergil
