Default Decode 1978 Lincoln Mark V VIN number

I would like to decode my 1978 Lincoln Mark V Jubilee VIN number. 8Y89A875338

What does this tell us? Options, axle ratios, year, model, ???

On line there is a decoding service but they require 17 characters in the vin number to be able to decode the number. We only have 11 characters to work with.

Thank you for any help that you can give us.

What I know about your car could fit on the head of a pin and have room left over for the car.

But, IF the vin follows the format of similar Ford cars thru '79/'80...
http://www.tbirdregistry.com/1960-19...rbird-vin.aspx

"8"= model yr ('78), "Y"= Wixom Assembly Plant
"89"= Body serial code, "A"= engine (460ci)
and the last 6 digits are the 'scheduled to be built' consecutive unit (car) number for the model year.

Ext & int options, axle ratios, trans, etc. are shown on the door post sticker, zoom in at this link.

Can you include a closeup photo of your door post sticker?

Compare the codes on your door sticker to the codes & info at the following links.

For those Ford Barners that want to decode their ID Numbers on their cars, these three publications are a wealth of information. American Car ID Numbers 1950-1959, 1960-1969, 1970-1979 by Cars and Parts Magazine are excellent. You may have to hunt them down on eBay, but they are worth the chase.
