1949 F1 Regulator Problem
Little help, guys! My pinyon gear shaft has sheared leaving the gear engaged and the window in the up position. So I have no way to lower everything so that I can begin the regulator removal process. Any ideas?

Remove the inspection panel. You should be able to move the mechanism, with difficulty, manually.

Re: 1949 F1 Regulator Problem
Thanks....I tried to do that yesterday, but couldn't get anything to budge....seems to be locked up somehow. I'll try again today. The only other option I can think of is to drill out the gear, which might not be easy. I wonder, too, if I could unbolt the assembly and drop everything down far enough to gain more access.

Re: 1949 F1 Regulator Problem
What do you think? If I disconnected the divider at the bottom, then disconnected the regulator, would the entire assembly lower far enough to remove the window clips so I could push the window up and secure it with tape, then remove the regulator in its extended form?

Re: 1949 F1 Regulator Problem
Since your regulator is toast anyway, my thoughts are:
carefully protect door and cut the regulator to handle shaft shaft off as short as possible remove all regulator screws--dont forget the lower divsion bar hardware make sure to open vent window to remove tension from division bar bend down lower tab/bumpstop of anti-rattle felt at back of door wiggle regulator back in towards door inside and see if the whole thing, glass and all, will drop down a little. if that works, unscrew top scew of division bar and see if you get movement of the glass. Goal is getting the glass down far enought to let you pull the snap clips holding the glass channel to the regulator assembly. After that it would be regular R&R procedures. Good luck, you have a lot fighting you to try and NOT break the glass... |
