Default Off Road 1940 ford pickup.

Hi, I making a replica of a 1940 ford pickup that was used in the deserts of Lybia in ww2. these trucks too a great beating and carried a heavy load so they were beefed up. Does anyone know if i can add extra leaf springs and how many is practical. Any other tips on making the truck for heavy use would be helpful. Must all be period parts and mods.
thanks

Is this what you are referring to?

Ford V8 produced in Germany under license between '39-'41 max weight load of 3 tons.

Or this? Ford 01 V8 15-cwt

you can add all the springs you want until it rides like a freight train! they also made coil spring helpers that boost up the load capacity, but if you are mainly after the "look" i would add some blocks under the cab and box to raise it up. box easy, cab not so much. have to deal with front clip alignment and pedal to floor board issues. maybe bigger wheels?

lot of better options... then if trying to make a 40s truck an off road beast. Maybe start with a Marmon-Herringtn setup if you are actual interested in a 40s setup.

I have read articles about HD 4x4 Ford trucks that were made for military and/or oil field use in the middle East Deserts.
Someplace I have an article with pix of a '37-38 MH Ford that was built by MH on a 1.5 ton chassis that was shortened to fit a 1 ton pickup bed. It was really a cool looking truck, looked more modern with the General Jumbo tires in lieu of conventional '30's tires/wheels.
I have attached a pix of another version of a MH Ford 4x for military use.

I add extra leafs (leaves?) to both front and rear springs on pretty much every pickup/panel I build. I don't like my trucks sagging down, even when loaded. Sounds like a good build you are entering into.
