Default What Is This... Possible Stabilizer?

My tie rod has this attached... The loop part is screwed onto the body under the radiator and then it splits into two rods that cover the tie rod. There are actually two loops that split apart as the photo shows. Anyone ever see this before?

Looks like a Shimmy Stop, sold by Apco Mossberg according to the Wonderful Unauthorized Accessories for the Model A Ford book. I got one with a box full of A parts, and sent it to the MAFFI museum.

I had one on my 30 Roadster.Mine clamped to the tie rod instead of the axle. The four prongs of the spring slid,(or scraped)in the big groove in the rear of the axle. Not good if you have a pretty painted axle.It was on there when I bought it,and was still on there 17 years later when I sold it.I still have one like the one pictured, that clamps to the axle and has two loops that slide on the tie rod,but have never tried to use it.

Thanks to all and to Mercman for always helping with photo enlargements. I have the Death Wobble when stopping and just ordered the Toe In Tool to measure....never much paid attention to the tie rod except to grease...but now I have to measure and perhaps adjust....Cotter pins look to be 1929 vintage... should be fun.....old cars...old wife...old house...old me!

Yup. It is a shimmy stop. I have a homemade one on mine. My father made it...and the darn thing actually works.
