Default 1934 Pickup Steering-wheel turns

I need some help/advise on the steering on my 1934 pickup. Specifically, how many turns (from center) is there to the left and to the right. From center (wheels straight ahead, drag link installed) my steering wheel turns close to 2 turns left but only one turn right.

It is 15:1 ratio. The wheels have full range of movement…on the left and right the “stops” rest against the king pins bolt heads. The three steering box adjustments all are set. The pitman arms four “notches” match those on the sector shaft. The pitman arm is pointed straight down when the wheels are centered (straight ahead). When driving it holds to road just fine. My understanding is that 1934 cars and pickups shared the same steering boxes.

I disassembled the pickup some 16 years ago and now I can not remember what I had before I started. Is it normal to have different turns left and right?

Sounds like your pitman arm is off by one notch. In other words, your sector shaft wasn't centered against the worm gear when you installed the pitman arm. Yes, the commercial chassis steering gear is the same as the passenger car version.

Like David said the Pitman arm is installed in most likely installed wrong position. Should be an easy fix.

You may have a passenger car pitman arm.

The '34 pick up passenger car and pick up do not share the same pitman arm.
this is because the angle of the steering column is different in the passenger cars and pick ups.

My opinion,

Is there a casting number on the pitman arm for the '34 pickups. I have several '34 pitman arms and I just grabbed one of them and slipped it onto the box on my '34 pickup chassis I'm working on. Now you have wondering if its the correct one? If I had one-hundred '34 Ford pickup pitman arms and one car arm chances are I would have grabbed the car one. Then I have it powder painted before I found out it was wrong.
