Default Driving Chassis Laws

Just curious

my wife is afraid i'll get a traffic ticket, while driving my unfinished restoration on the neighborhood streets... Any Comments

my son thinks this may fall into tractor laws, and would be ok??

Thanks

Montana countryside, no problem. Downtown NYC might be a different situation. Where do you live?

It would probably depend on what an 'unfinished restoration' is.

Do you think you could show a photo to the judge and convince him it is a tractor? I would think an unregistered motor vehicle on public streets would be a problem.

If you can drive it around local streets then it must be more or less roadworthy. The simple answer is, get it more or less finished.

Humble Opionion:

On private farm roads, private road in a forrest, OK, if you own it, or have permission to enter same to avoid trespassing.

On a public street, public country road, (Federal, State, County, Town, City or any Municipality, etc.), unfinished Model A without minimum safety features "not" OK as far as deputies, policemen etc. are concerned.

Chances of getting a ticket?

Depends on if neighbors call officials; and/or your location.

One freak accident like a kid run into you on a bicycle & it is bad news.

Life is full of chances -- I have taken my share & what the heck, I still do -- be safe!

J Bill gives me an idea, take the chassis the way it sits and get it registered as is, value will thus be less, registration cost will be Much less, no lifting the body off to satisfy the frame number questions,

Thanks All

in calif if it weighs more than 2200# you need fenders, brake lites , lites, windshield, and of course working brakes, ive been stopped and it depends on the cop, most wont ticket, just tell you to take it home, its the fenders they want on the car tho

Back about 1997 I was driving my bare chassis around my neighborhood, when I stopped to take a right turn, there was a cop behind me, took the tur and the cop kept going straight. Thought for sure I was going to get what for, go figure. This was in North Minneapolis Mn.

Probably depends on how good a bullshxtter you are IF you got stopped and what mood the officer was in. Would probably also depend on whether it was a local, county, or state police.

I'm sure it is illegal as heck but whats the difference, have fun! Stick to the small roads and no one will bother you. If they do, just chalk it up to a personality defect on their part.

If my neighbor, the deputy sheriff can do it, I guess the rest of us on the block can too.

Law enforcement in my area are pretty cool, if there is a problem, they will nicely tell you what needs to be done to avoid any issues.

Sunnyorm, Dog here, 'DUMB' question, what happened to RESPECT for the LAW? You tryin' to teach Model A folks to be CROOKS & be DANGEROUS at the same time? HEY! I know a K-9 Cop & he's got a Dog named ROCKY, he's a Belgian Malanois & can be a MEAN dude, but he likes us! Some cop might stop you & SIC his Dog on you, or he might CHEW off your tires!

I'd worry more about not having insurance than what John Law would think.
