Default Stewart Warner Horn Wiring

I just acquired an SW horn that works, but I’m fairly sure the coils have been re-wound for 12 volts. It works quite well on 12 volts, but not nearly so well on 6 volts.

I recall reading an article about rewinding horn coils and seem to remember that 6 volt horn coils have about 50 turns of wire and 12 volt coils have twice that.

2 questions -
1. Do the coils appear to be wound for 12 volts ?
2. Can I just unwind half the turns to convert it back to 6 volts ?

Many thanks - Jim

Be aware that in the Stewart Warner horn the screw on the end of the armature holding the ratchet wheel on is LEFT HAND THREADS!

That will work but 6V requires twice the current. Best to replace with #20 AWG if you lay on your horn a lot. Could overheat and drip solder.
