Brake light (bulb) upgrade - 6v, non halogen
Is there a two contact (1936) non-halogen bulb out there that is brighter than what is typically available ? I don’t want to change from generator to alternator and am hoping for a few extra watts. Thank you.

Why not halogen, I have been using halogen headlights in my A for over 20 years with the generator
Have you measured the voltage at the lights? A friend bought a 36 packard, its brake lights were dim, the spare parts that came with the car had every type of brake light bulb, none bright, found only 4 volts getting to the lights, traced it to rusty nuts on the ammeter --- now any of the different bulbs are bright |

If the socket has in line studs (bayonet connections) then you may have limited number of possible bulb types available for those 1158 bulb with BA15d base type sockets. The offset stud bayonet sockets are more common but I don't know how many different replacements there are for the 1154 type bulbs. The modern LED types with the BAY15d type base may be brighter. LEDs can have problems with turn signal applications that have certain types of signal stat devices. Sometimes resistors have to be added to draw enough current to make the lights blink on and off.

1936 had single contact bulbs. (I've just been going through this with my tail lights.)

I think single contacts types were on the pickups or dual lamp type units if memory serves. My memory ain't what it used to be. It seems like the 33 to 37 Ford passenger cars had the dual element 1158 type bulb.

be aware that halogen bulbs generate a ton of heat. a no-no with plastic lens.
