I had the same problem on a 34 1 1/2 ton truck, with the tank under seat, that tank had sat empty for a few years and was running off of an aux tank behind the cab, so I put in 14 gal of vinegar, let it sit for a couple weeks, it did make a trip to and from a truck show on the back of a semi, drained it,hot pressure washed it let it air dry put some marvel oil in it shook it around and put it back in service, but I'll be watching it to see if it starts to rust again, if so I'll use the KBS tank sealer to seal it up.

Fill with water and cut open around seam,sand blast then coat with correct sealer,use mig weld back up and put more sealer in and rotate to seal seam,test with low air pressure,about 1 lb No more problems and still have original tank,
