Power plant is manual start. Hand cranking is difficult enough without having the additional load of turning the saw mill too.

Interesting perspective. Wonder why not just use the neutral in the transmission. My theory on removing the belt is that it is likely a real leather belt, and removing it takes the tension off so as not to stretch (even though it uses a tensioner).
