starter
When i push the starter rod nothing happens. I have good connections and 6V at the starter cable. If I take the cap off at the starter is there a brass connection that engages when you push the rod
that could be corded or something else? Thanks The voltage does npt drop when I push the rod so its not stuck. |

Re: starter
Sounds like a switch issue. Its not hard to remove to take a look at it.
At times the starter drive will jam in the flywheel, but, that doesn't sound like thats your problem. |

Re: starter
I just got done replacing a battery that showed 6.4 volts at the starter but would not even turn the starter. The battery had 6.4 volts but zero amps. Recharged and load tested it and it failed the test with flying colors. After I replaced the battery everything fired up just fine. That battery gave me 5 yrs and just quit in my garage this morning.

Of course, it could also be that your starter has gone bad. This can happen if the brushes are worn too much or stuck in their holders or if the armature commutator has a coating of black gunk or there is a broken wire somewhere in the starter. To test the starter, bypass the switch by touching the cable to the terminal on top of the starter with the switch removed. Be careful not to touch the cable to ground and disconnect the battery ground strap when you put things back together.
