Default 34 pickup oil pressure guage

I want to install an oil pressure guage. Where on the engine is a good place to attach it? I see some fittings that look right on the left (driver side) rear of the block just below and to the rear of the head. Is that oil?

Thanks

Sorry. Duplicate post. How do I remove one of them?

The fittings you see are the proper place for a gage connection.

If you are using an oil filter you can tee into the line on the feed, much more clearance than connecting to back of block.

Marko, your answer gives rise to another question, if I may. There is no oil filter on the engine. What does one use and how do you attach it, if I want to add one?

The ford filter that mounts to the head is easy to find. It is fed by the same port on the back of the block. But, you will need to have a return feed back to the pan. See if your pan has a plug on the left side for return, many don't. Some later engines use a banjo bolt in distibutor, some blocks have a plug in block to use. I had to install a 1/4 coupling on my 39 pan to use a filter.

Thank you, Marko39. No plug in the pan, but I have it off, right now so I will add one. Then I'll find a filter.

Does the addition of a filter affect the oil pressure reading, since they both come from the same port?

Ford used a special restrictor fitting on the filter inlet to prevent pressure loss. It has a .060 orfice. I had to make mine by soldering a fitting closed and drilling the proper size hole in it.

There are different configurations of the plumbing on the filters, but here is an example of one of them.

Ford first offered an engine oil filter as an accessory in 1936 it mounted to a bracket on the head and was made by AC. The Fram oil filter as seen above was not offered until late 1940 again as an accessory.
