'53 Crestline Convertible Rear Trim
I am currently working on my '53 and was wondering about an extra trim on the rear fenders.
As you can see in the pictures below there is a second stainless steel trim piece that follows the upper horizontal crease along the rear fender - outlined in yellow. The lower trim piece is factory. I have checked all the Ford photo reference books I can find, as well as google, and none of the photos I have found so far show cars with this trim. Does anybody know if this might be late production, an accessory item or perhaps a custom modification? It does appear to be just like a factory trim both in fit & finish and matches the style of other trims on the car. Thanks in advance for any help, Meric.

Re: '53 Crestline Convertible Rear Trim
I'm into 52-54 Fords, and this is the first time I saw this. I am assuming it is either an aftermarket item or the owners own modification.

Re: '53 Crestline Convertible Rear Trim
Here is a picture of a 1952 Ford Crestline Sunliner that now lives in Australia. You can see that this car also has an extra chrome strip at the top of the rear fender crease. |

Yes, I agree I think these are aftermarket.

Thanks, It is starting to look better with a cut and polish as well as a new wiring loom and a lot of other electrical repairs. Just need to pluck the motor, replace a pitted valve seat and maybe a set of rings and bearings to make it more usable.

Re: '53 Crestline Convertible Rear Trim
The V-8 Album book shows 1952 had the chrome strip at the top and the
1953 had the chrome strip at the middle. Maybe someone added the top chrome strip to their 1953 car. |

Re: '53 Crestline Convertible Rear Trim
Contact Craig Gorris or Ray Beebe who wrote the 52-53 Ford book for the V-8 Club. I'm sure they can comment on this. Both are listed in the V-8 Club roster. craig in Ohio and Ray in New York.
