Default stromberg type carburetors

The old stromberg 97 that has been on my A for years is getting tired and needs a replacement. Can anyone tell me about Speedway Motors 9 super 7 carbs that look the same from what I can tell yet sell for much less. Are parts interchangeable ? How do those of you with webers like those-----thanks for all opinions

Hey harryc,
Do a search 'stromberg 97' , in search function at top in black. On 1-28-13, there was same question with answers that may help you.

I noticed that there are positive responses on the Super 97 from those people who have ACTUALLY used them. There were problems early on and after talking to some of the sales techs at Speedway, those problems were addressed and a lot of product was replaced. For what ever reason, there are a lot of anti-Speedy Bill posters on the HAMB.

FYI, I'm using a pair of the English 97's on my A with no complaints.

I use a 94. Doesn't have the fame and the glamour, but they run better.

Remember the old addage "you get what you paid for" Have your original rebuilt by one of the members here. Max,Charlie ny,52 Henry or ken ct. All are very competent on these carbs.

I have to agree .I have purchased alot of items from Speedway Motors starting back in the 60's .Never once had a problem .Made alot of road trips to Speedway Motors and talked to the techs and sales people .I even was taken inside the shop area of the store and was shown how to do a few things I had questions about .I don't have any of their 97"s but there is always problems with new stuff .I believe if they weren't doing things right ,they would have been out of business along time ago .No,I don't work for them or have any ties to them .Speedy Bill will always visit with you if he is around also.Nice guy ,JMO.

Breathe some new life into that old 97 with a rebuild kit and parts from vintagespeed.com. I rebuilt an old 81 that was on my 30 pickup and it runs like a champ! Very pleased with the quality from VS. -Jon

I have an English new 97 that I just put on last fall. Used a scalded dog manifold from Snyder's( from Charlie Yapp). It is very smooth and worked right out of the box with no adjustment ,even idle speed. I have only driven it a couple of hundred miles, but I like it.Nice piece.
