Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?
ronn, you can send your parts to my address in Oregon if you wish to avoid sales tax. I'll send you a list of what you need.

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?
I quit selling on there a few years back when it became mandatory that people use paypal. I still buy occasionally but selling isn't worth the trouble what with packing and shipping etc. in my opinion.

Post cleaned up a bit. If you can’t give your opinion without bagging on someone else’s, please find another forum.

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?
I still buy occasionally on Ebay though not as much as years ago. I didn't like being forced to pay with PayPal. I re-started selling somewhat a year ago after a ten year absence. That didn't seem as good as before but maybe it was the way things have evolved. The one particular irritant is having to pay their fees on shipping costs. At any rate Ebay seems to be the only or main outlet for selling certain things (not Model A parts).

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?
I don't mind buying stuff on Ebay if it is what I need and the price is right. There are still some good deals to be had if you know how to shop.
I hardly ever sell on Ebay anymore. When I do sell, it is usually non-auto related stuff. In the beginning it was a great place to sell lower end cars and parts of all types, but for me that ended 10 years ago. It really went down hill when sellers could no longer leave "real" feedback for buyers. The last few things I sold on Ebay never got paid for and the buyers never made contact with me at all. If a buyer changes his/her mind, there is nothing you can do about it. Ebay does nothing to support the seller and, for this reason, smaller sellers have all but vanished. Today, Ebay seems to cater to the large volume sellers of new, general line merchandise items that have hundreds of listings for sale. There are better places to sell such as Ford Barn, other marque/model specific websites, Hemmings, etc. Call me old fashion, but I really miss the days of the Good Ol' Swapmeet. Nothing like clutching a cup of coffee on a chilly morning while looking over a pile of rusty iron that is covered in fresh dew. The unpredictability of what you might find-or sell-never ceases to excite me! Last edited by gz; 07-30-2020 at 10:46 AM. |

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?
I use Ebay only if it is to my advantage, the seller fees are like an auction. For the last couple of years I have been using Craigslist or one of the forum sites. On Ebay there is a great deal of china stuff, so you better be sure of what you are buying, example I use a lot of copper/nickle brake line because it is easy to work with, many vendors are selling copper washed steel which is hard to bend, better to order such items from your local supplier or companies like Inline Tube. With all that said it is a great search engine for some hard to get parts.

I still buy and sell. Oregon is one of 3 or 4 states that does not have a sales tax.

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?
What riles me up lately is the practice of sellers posting in their ad "item location: Petaluma, CA (or city/state of your choice) and 2-3 day delivery and you end up getting it 2 weeks later directly from China.
The tax part I don't think eBay has much say about.
