Seat Belt Trimming
My seat belts are too long and I want to trim them, then fold over the end and secure it with glue. Can you recommend what glue to use? Thanks!

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
I would not depend on the glue in an accident. Take them to an upholstery shop ot get them sewed.

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
I agree don't glue them. Years ago they used to sell aftermarket seatbelt retractors that you could put on the belts. I don't know if they are still available.

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
I know that the belt system we put in our A’s is Far from a modern car, but here is a little shoulder belt info. During a 30 MPH barrier impact, the nylon belt material that goes through the loop on the B post actually gets melted partially from the friction involved. The forces are huge and adhesive will not do the job.

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
Trimming the ends is NOT going to impact the integrity of the belt ( assume uou're doing the buckle end............), Crazy Glue, Gorilla Glue, etc. JMO

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
I use seat belt retractors to keep my unruly seat belts under control.

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
Mine work really well also. Sure does keep them from falling out on the running board and closing the door on them.

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
Bruce,
I cut off the ends and sealed the fringes with a lighter. After that, the end is covered in soft leather so that it looks nicer.

Re: Seat Belt Trimming
Thanks, Werner.
If those retractors are like the ones my Dad had in his ‘63 Impala, the center part has a windup spring and you put the belt in it and let it coil it up. Glad they work better now, not too good then. |

Seat Belt Trimming

I just ordered a set of these based on this thread, and I’m disappointed. The ones I received from Juliano’s are made out of flimsy plastic and have a textured surface that does not slide over the belt under their own power. Essentially, I have to hand feed the seat belt to the retractor every time I take off the belt. Also, one of the springs “jumped track” while I was installing the retractor for the first time. It was a pain to get that straightened out again. If these retractors would have been made of smooth metal, the friction would be lower, and I could see that they might work well. The flimsy plastic that I received is hardly worth $20. Maybe my seat belts have a rougher texture than the seat belts in other cars, but they look pretty “normal” to me. Just my 2 cents... They also have metal ones if you prefer. https://www.julianos.com/Chrome-Seat...p/ju010401.htm I have never used the metal ones.

Yes, I wound them according to the instructions. 7 full turns. The spring went wacky in one of them after 6 turns, but after I got that straightened out, I wound it 7 turns as well. They just don’t work well for me. Your belts probably have a different texture than mine. I don’t doubt they work fine for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
