Introduction - My first "A" Experience
Hello! Attached are photos of my new project. I took delivery on it on Dec 12 and it is my first experience with a 1929 Model A. The bug has bitten me. Right now, I'm at the clean the carb and catalog collecting stage. The simplicity and purity of the car is a breathe of fresh air in today's world. I've been reading the site for a few weeks now and from what I can tell, I've have a great car to start with. From what I can tell everything seems original. The older gentleman who was the previous custodian tells me it was a "Stripdown". I don't know what that means or don't know enough to determine what it originally was. The cowl frame (I don't know the real term) only has three holes on each side and no evidence of hinges. Any help would be great to understand any identifying characteristics. I look forward to being around here for awhile and needing help. This is going to be fun! I'm thinking of possibly going the station wagon or huckster route. (Advice?)
Merry Christmas! |

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
Looks like it is ready (more or less) to put on a huckster body.
If you need some ideas or help, send me a PM. Have fun.

I like your words as to "custodian".
I think all us genuine people are "custodians" of model A history that will be passed on when we cark it. |

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
You have a good start for a station wagon or huckster. The cowl looks like a 28 or 29 Tudor.

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
I had one like it and made a huckster pickup out of it. It had the cab of a wooden huckster, the bed of wood and coupe rear fenders. Great little truck, sold it to a local microbrewery.

Welcome to the hobby. This site has a wealth of information, don't hesitate to post a question. You may find various ideas on how to solve a problem or which way to approach your restoration, but they are all given with a love of the hobby and an attempt to help you. I always recommend in joining a local chapter of Model A enthusiasts to share your questions with they will also be a great help.

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
I share the sentiments of a few other posters. Patina cannot be bought at any price. What you have is a nice piece of Americana. Make it safe and drive it. Or change it to whatever you want...it's yours and its a Model A. It doesn't get any better than that. Congratulations.

I agree with Larry and GW - leave it looking as it is, make sure the mechanicals are safe, add a pair of seatbelts, and enjoy! Gar Williams

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
That's a good idea. One thing I'd do is add some curly iron rail to the ends of the seat, so you don't slide out when you go around a curve!

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
Thanks for the welcome and the great ideas. I'm in agreement with getting the mechanicals right, making it safe and driving it like I stole it. The car has too much character to do a complete restoration. I do like the idea of the huckster pickup. Then I could call it ( ready, wait for it....... ) a "Hickup" Thanks again, fun is the name of the game.

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
Unrestored cars usually get as much or more attention at Model A events as the best restorations. Make it safe and drive it like it is. It's COOL.

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
Great looking vehicle. Quite similar in apearance to the 1922 Model T that I used to have. Clean up the box & enjoy.

Neat Truck-ster! Go with the advice from many, make it safe and have a ton of fun with it. You a fun, open top, utility truck. Not only will you have the fun of driving it somewhere, you have one huge trunk to put whatever you need. Welcome to the Fraternal Order of Model A Maniacs! Harry K

Re: Introduction - My first "A" Experience
like many others, I will polish, finish, fix, repair or even upgrade if needed but will not change it! (keep the history of the car as found) and be the next "custodian"
