Brake Petal
My brake petal will not come back to up position. It comes up so far and sticks. When I pull it up I hear a thud. I installed one of those helper springs but it still wont fully return. My brake light stays on because of this problem...HELP The car is a 1930 pickup..

Re: Brake Petal
Your pedal may not be returning because the stop light switch plunger could be bent. Un-bolt the switch and see what happens.

Re: Brake Petal
you need to start out and find what area the binding is coming from..'
i would start by disconnecting each brake rod from the crossshaft one at a time.. if it still binds once all are removed ck the crosshaft pivots, pedal bushings, switch etc... have someone work the pedal while you look for the thud |

Re: Brake Petal
Make sure the pedal isn't hanging up on the floorboard slot! That would not explain the "clunk" sound, but would definitely interfere with the pedal coming back fully.

Re: Brake Petal
Mine did the same thing and it was a bent pedal to cross shaft rod. The switch was fine but the disc end of the rod was hanging up on the plunger.

Re: Brake Petal
Lubricate ALL moving parts and make sure the antirattlers have good return pressure. The brake pedal should return even with the antirattlers off the car, but they do help, and when they have good return pressure it keeps the rod upset located in the pocket, so it doesn't wear into the rod.

Re: Brake Petal
I got it fixed, it was the stem that pushes the brake light switch was hanging up. My neighbor came over and pushed the brake petal ,while I was under the car .A little penetrating oil and lithium grease did the job. Thanks for all the help.Mike
