36 V8 Pickup Radiator?

Saddly today my generator mount broke and pitched the fan into my radiator.

I have several questions.

• Does anyone repair these old radiators? Mine is the original style with the CU tubes.
• If no who makes replacement radiators?
  
• Generator mount? Are there newer (better metal) generator mounts? If yes who makes them? I have another generator with mount (but it's also old and well used). Or do I have to switch out the generator for an alternator setup?

The answer is if you find a radiator shop that is competent enough to make a repair or re-core....by a lottery ticket.

You can go to Brassworks and mortgage your house and buy a new one. (The Brassworks guys should have as much money as Bezos).

Or, you can patiently search for a NOS or a new service replacement radiator.

And how much less would you expect to pay for a nearly 90 YO, never used part than the cost from Brassworks? I understand that what you are asking the OP to do is find a unicorn on a budget.

As a last resort, you could get one of the many aluminum radiators offered on eBay for around $200 and ten bucks worth of black radiator paint. There have been many discussions about this on several forums and the consensus seems to be that if you get one with welded seams (not glued), they work quite well.

Some may not consider it to be the optimum solution, but it'll get you back on the road.

I've found them in the $400-$500 range. Know the right folks I suppose.

When my fan came off and clipped the radiator during a cross country trip, I located a radiator shop to make a temporary repair and completed my trip. Once home, I reported the incident to my insurance, which not only paid for the repair on the road, they paid for an NOS radiator including shipping. The radiator was located through Hemmings at $400, but that was nearly twenty years ago, so I’d expect the next best thing today would be a recore.

I bought a really, really solid nice one about 10 years ago at a farm sale, for 20 bucks. I figured the scrap value was that.

Don't know what planet you're living on but quality isn't cheap. When I bought the Brassworks radiator for my '39 p/u with an 8ba Lee at Brassworks took all the time needed to insure the radiator was exactly what I needed before I placed my order I picked it up in person when I went to TROG at Pismo Beach. I saw first hand the craftsmanship at his shop. And yes it took a while for the radiator to be built but like many specialty shops they are having trouble getting skilled help.

That’s the opposite experience I had with Lee and Brassworks. I eventually found an old radiator repair guy and he recored my original 35 pickup radiator. These guys are still out there.
