Re: Lowering Front and rear
This is a 3 inch drop and still looks stock. 1932-1936 axle with a Posies 2 inch drop spring. Posies can also supply a spring to drop the rear.

Re: Lowering Front and rear
Back in the day we would "torch the springs" to lower a car. The springs were heated with a acetylene torch until they bent. To raise a car we would reverse the shackles, which would not work on a Model A.

Re: Lowering Front and rear
Reverse the spring eyes and remove leaves. This will lower the car a bit but removing leaves reduces spring capability. Reversing the eyes is the least invasive way to alter the height. Dropping the front axle and stepping the rear frame rails in front of the cross member is the old traditional way but the car will be altered a good bit doing that.

Don't click on the picture. Simply look at it.

Re: Lowering Front and rear
Reverse-eye main leaves will get you two-inches in drop, Posies offers a "low reversed-eye" that will get you another inch. Model T rear spring will result in similar drop. If you want more, you can pull leaves out of the pack, just be sure to not pull a bunch of consecutive leaves as each leaf serves to spread the load. In other words, you want the "span" between the ends of each leaf to be as close as possible.
For example, if you pull the second and third leaf, the distance between the end of the fourth leaf and the spring perch of the main leaf is beyond the design of the spring pack and can put additional stress on the main, since each leaf provides support to the pack. Hope that makes sense. |

Re: Lowering Front and rear
There’s a whole lot of folks who hop up ford flathead four engines from 28-34.. not too many put the saw their cars. But if they do, it’s their car,I defended their right to do as they wish with their private property and continue to back that freedom. If you want to stop someone from cutting up their private property I suggest buying it from them.

Re: Lowering Front and rear
I have a Posie’s reverse eye lowering spring that I have not yet installed but will. However, I did go to’35 16’ wheels and when I did I installed a lower profile radial on the front and that alone lowered the front and brought the stance more to my liking. I did discover that to make it look right I had to remove the front bumper because the gap from tire to bumper became too large and it looked goofy. I may some day make some different brackets and reinstall the bumper there is nothing an average bloke like me can do to the stock brackets because they are made of spring steel. Just my $0.02.

Re: Lowering Front and rear
Just installed a posie (Posies Super Slide 29-31R-C Narrowed Rear) on my 30, reverse eye and if I remember correctly, removed 2 leaves. it lowered my car 5” in the rear. Previous leaf was a rusted 10 leaf
I am also going to install a posies reverse eye (Posies Super Slide 1002L Front Spring, 48 Inch Axle, 2 In Drop) on the front with two leaves removed. I am expecting at least 3” lower in front. Got to get home after this aweful vacation (hahaha just kidding) and install it. Previous leader was rusted solid. When I removed it, it literally was rusted to a non-op state I was going to do all the typical stuff to lower my car…. Reverse the eyes, remove leaves, etc but I decided to be lazy, save weeks of work, save years of frustration, and spared the world of hearing endless cuss words from my garage SO…. My friends at speedway delivered me some well needed springs. Guess I’m getting lazy but I’m not ashamed of taking the low road when it comes to have a better functioning car. Good luck! |
