Default on rods

can any body tell me if replacing rabbit rods with shelled rods is simple or is a lot of machining required thanks

The only machining is at the small end of the rods. You will need to have a shop hone the wrist pin bushings to fit the piston pins.

Hmmmmmm, The shelled rods I got from Berts required no machining of any kind. Just plug-n-play.

(I believe these are AER rods & inserts)

Like any engine using insert type bearings the crank has to be for what ever size the bearings are. You wouldn't want to take an old out of round crank and just slap new insert type rods and bearings in. You will need to have it ground to the proper diameter taking into account the oil clearance of .0015. Unless you are adding an oil filter system, insert bearings are not the way to go. (mine and others op)
If the crank has been reground you still need to check it's size. I know one or two rebuilders that grind the crank as little as possible so the mains are the same as well as the rods then bore the rod and main bearings to the size needed. For ex, if the crank will clean up .005 under then that's what they do.
