Default Quiet muffler

The muffler in my huckster-to-be has several holes that have rusted through. When running, the car doesn't sound loud, but I know it won't pass inspection when the time comes. I know many of you out there are enthralled with the unique exhaust tone of an A, but I prefer a very quiet sound. I am contemplating installing a muffler from a 1970s Pinto or maybe a Toyota 22R. Has anyone tried something like this?? I understand all the philosophical criticism, and may very well end up with a new Aries system, but I gotta ask.

My Aries muffler is very quiet. When I was a kid the trams on Venice (calif) beach paths were powered with Model A engines and muffled into silence. It's your call.

Could be setting yourself up for problems when using the wrong muffler (overheating, poor performance). Might want to check out this info before you decide:

Remember the Midas commercial, see you again boys ! 50 years ago my original muffler blew apart from too many after fires ( dumb teenager ) dad handed me a straight through heavy duty truck muffler, cut the old off and welded the new on, was it louder ????

Borrow a muffler that will pass the inspection, then put yours back on.

I thought that a muffler for a Mustang 302 single system would be good enough for one side of a flathead merc engine(255 cu in), it was too restrictive and caused overheating on that bank
I put a Mercedes diesel muffler ( it’s straight through) on my Chevy truck with twice the cu in. and it was quiet inside the truck, with proper performance and a healthy sound outside

He also did a reprise a couple of years later.

I liked John in this role - sort of the "Yankee Trader Frugal New Englander."

Both Maine and Vermont and formerly Cow Hampshire lay claim to this persona - but the breed is long dead and replaced by Woke in all three locations.

Too much "Its a Wonderful Life - Mr. Potter" - which shows the "downside" of this persona.
