Default long type generator

I have a generator apart and am checking current draw on the field coils.the ammeter on my charger is showing 5 amps. is this too high?

That's close enough. When I test the long generator fields I usuall get about 4 to 4.8 amps. Fields are almost always good or really bad, as in all or most of the enamel burned off from overheating.

Congrats on your 8,000 th post. Thanks for the reply, I just put a new ammeter in my charger,I had an old simpson meter lying around, reads in tenths,that what I was getting , 4.8. The field wrappings looked real good and the generator was working just getting it ready for your voltage reg.
