1939 Ford 2 ton help!!
Hello all. I am look for any info on 1939 Ford Two Ton. When I bought the truck I was told it was a 1938. After some research I am 98% sure it’s a 1939. It has the round windshield nob, metal door panels and hydraulic brakes. However I can’t find anything about 2 ton’s. All I can find is 1 and 1 1/2 ton. If someone could point me in the right direction to learn more about my truck, that would be great!!

Ash try? I can’t zoom in on your photos but the hood opener looks stepped which is 1938.
I have a 1938 1.5 ton |

Interesting serial number, for sure. But that wire bundle.....now that looks like it's GETTING CLOSE to creating a "SNEAK CIRCUIT", or letting the smoke out of those wires with very much more use. I'd use those circuits very sparingly! DD |

Here is a side by side picture of the 1938 and 1939 Ford Commercial Grilles. While they are interchangeable, they are both different. The Grille on your new project is a 1939 Ford Commercial Grille. |

I looked up the hood badge in the Canadian parts book and it shows a two ton
so I would guess your truck was built in Canada. |

a friend has a 39 1 1/2 ton, I also know about three other 40/41 1 1/2 ton trucks. I will assume yours has a closed driveshaft? ask questions about \anything here and you will get help!

The VIN will take time to track down. There is info out there for cars but no so much for trucks in that respect but the amount of digits is consistent with Ford of Canada. It likely won't tell a person whether it had a 221 engine or a 239 unless it has a 85 HP badge on it.
Trucks varied in wheel base length of frame and cabs could be conventional or COE. What really made the load bearing capability was the combination of rear springs and the type and arrangement of rear wheels. Ford USA didn't put load bearing badges on trucks that I'm aware of. This allowed an owner to make changes if needed. The current engine appears to be a later C59T type. Last edited by rotorwrench; 06-22-2021 at 06:49 PM. |

Super cool Truck! Here's a pic from the 1939 Commercial/Truck Brochure, No pictures of a 2 Ton but a chassis rendering for 3 different wheel bases? What is the 2 Ton wheel base? Those hoodside badges are unique, maybe a Canadian thing? A rare bird for sure.

It does have a rebuild data plate on it. It has a 4 speed transmission with a leaver/switch on the shifter. Haven’t had time yet to see what the leaver/switch goes to. Looks like it was stamped c59a, then re-stamped an c59t. It also has a 95 under Ford on the badge. So I assume it was the 239cid 95hp engine originally.

The lever must be used to get into reverse. It's a lockout. I daily drove a 38 tonner for 11 years, even on the interstate hauling commercial contracting equipment with cable brakes. Never once broke down, and always got the job done. Your truck will be a capable companion as you sort out what needs fixin' and what don't. The lever on the shifter is a reverse lockout.

The windshield opening knob should face up. 38 faced forward on the 38pickup and was a safety hazard for a child sitting in the middle. 39 pickup had wet brakes. Dunno about the 2 tonner.
