Re: Coil for each cylinder
That is definitely some ingenuity ,
Amazing he dreamed it up in 1953! Probably a very high maintenance system though. |

Re: Coil for each cylinder
Wow, what's amazing is that it was the first Autorama I attended free of charge because my '36 Ford was being used by me as a traveling billboard to advertise the show.
Needless to say I don't remember the car.

Re: Coil for each cylinder
I was thinking of something similar using 8 Pertronix Ignitor II modules in the stock distributor. Each module would fire it's own coil. Then I found this company:
http://compu-tronix.com/DIS8.htm Not cheap, but a clean install. The coil packs could be mounted on the firewall or on each side of the engine. Anywhere really. |

Re: Coil for each cylinder
Back in the mid 50's I was at the stock car track in Key west Fl. We ran a Jalopy, junker. Just for fun, But the big boys ran Midifieds and money was no object. There was several cars there that had coils on each spark plug. and the used something like the Modle T distributor

Re: Coil for each cylinder
A friend of mine had to replace the coils in his Ford Explorer, and I seem to remember he got some after market units at a real good price (less than $75 for 8 coils). They worked fine. OEM parts can be verrry expensive if you buy the wrong stuff from the wrong place.

I haven't fully thunk it out yet. But in the old days a 2 lobe distributor cam breaking 4 individual point sets should've been able trigger 4 pairs of coils on a V8 with a wasted exhaust-stroke spark. AOT, a lot easier to trigger coils now with all this new-fangled electronic stuff. 8^) Jack E/NJ |
